Internship Program

Professional Growth Internships for Drama Students

Students participating in the Theatre Arts training program may be eligible for an internship at one of several participating professional theatre companies in the Atlanta metro area. Past intern sites include 7 Stages Theatre, Actors Express, Fabrefaction Theatre Company, multiShades Atlanta, The Center for Puppetry Arts, and the Academy Theatre. Positions are primarily tech, production, or admin-related although an occasional acting opportunity may become available for those already serving in an internship. The primary value of these placements is three-fold. First is the practical value of gaining experience and knowledge about the methods and procedures of a professional theatre. Second is the prospect for developing important professional contacts. Third is the merit assigned to a selective internship on a student’s college application.

Successful candidates for Theatre Arts internships must go through a selection process that includes an interview with their potential supervisor at the host organization and a negotiation of the work schedule and job description. (Work times cannot compete with the scheduled rehearsals and meetings of the Theatre Arts Program.) Final decisions about placement are at the discretion of Program Director Dr. Pamela Turner -- compatible placements are important both for the student and for the health of the intern program. Interns must be enrolled in the Theatre Arts Program and must be in good academic standing in all their courses at Ben Franklin. There is no monetary compensation for Internships. Some work-study credit may be applicable.
