Adele McLees, volunteer at the 3-Star afterschool program in Clarkston spoke to the organization’s monthly programs breakfast. She shared the story of how her ballet injury led to a calling in the refugee community. Adele has volunteered as a tutor with the after-school program at Willow Branch Apartments in Clarkston over the last several years as part of her Work-Study Program at Ben Franklin Academy.
The apartments are affordable housing primarily occupied by refugee families. As a result of her experiences with the children at Willow Branch, Adele plans to pursue her interests in human rights as she attends
Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, next fall.
