Emery and Associates recently won a First Place Associated General Contractor award for their work on the renovation to Junior House. Recognized in the Design/Build category for their redesign of the 1930s era private mansion that serves as the bones of Junior House, Emery and Associates met the challenges of this project in several ways. The Ben Franklin Academy project consisted of building a new three story, 2,550 SF addition with an elevator onto the school's existing 9,500 SF building and making it look like it was always there, as well as renovating approximately 40% of the existing building. All work was done during three school breaks (1 week each during the winter and spring breaks, plus a 9 ½ week summer break) and eight weekends in between. Work began in early March 2017 and was completed for the fall term as scheduled on August 3, 2017.
