What is the tax credit program?

The state of Georgia provides $120 million in tax credits to individuals, trusts, and corporations who want to provide financial aid to students entering private schools from public institutions. Taxpayers can redirect their tax liability to Ben Franklin Academy and receive a 100% credit against their Georgia tax. BFA can then provide financial aid to students who demonstrate need.

How do the tax credits benefit Ben Franklin Academy?
Your redirected tax dollars help fund BFA’s need-based scholarships to incoming BFA students that are currently enrolled in public school. Your participation in this program makes a substantial impact on our ability to educate students from all backgrounds.

How does this program benefit me?
You have the satisfaction of providing an opportunity to a talented child who wants to receive the unique educational opportunity that BFA provides, but who may not have the means to do so. For every tax dollar you redirect to Ben Franklin Academy, you get a 100% reduction of your Georgia tax. For people subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), you get a charitable deduction that reduces your federal tax.

 How does this program work?
  • Georgia taxpayers can make a contribution within statutory limits to an SSO (Apogee).
  • The state of Georgia will then issue you an income tax credit in the full amount of your contribution.

The amount you may contribute depends upon your tax filing status:

Status Amount
Married Filing Jointly Maximum $2,500
Married Filing Separately Maximum $1,250
Individual Filer Maximum $1,000
Members of qualifying pass through entities Maximum $10,000
C-Corporation Maximum 75% tax liability
When should I apply?

APPLY NOW! PAY LATER! The sooner the better as all independent schools in Georgia are vying for the same tax dollars.

Apogee is now accepting applications for the 2024 tax year. You should apply before December 15, 2023 so that there is time to process your application. The final deadline is December 31, 2023. Please apply online at www.Apogee123.org.

Payment will be due in 2024, and your tax credit will apply to your 2024 taxes.

How can I participate?

The state of Georgia has placed an annual cap on the total amount of tax credits that may be awarded through this program. There has been a dramatic jump in Georgia taxpayers taking advantage of this program as it has gained momentum. Apogee is now accepting online pledge submissions for the 2024 tax year.

Apply online at www.apogee123.org.
